Overview

The Portfolio Diagram visualizes the distribution of Building Blocks along two axes with attribute values. The Building Blocks are displayed as circles in a grid.

The sizes of the circles can be defined by another attribute. Additionally, all Building Blocks can be filtered and colored.

Configuration

Upon initial opening, a Portfolio Diagram with a default configuration is presented. All further configuration is done interactively on the diagram. Use the toolarea in the top left corner of the screen to configure your diagram step by step.

You can save the complete diagram configuration as public or private saved query. Whenever coming back to the diagram, the last configuration will be restored. The configuration is also stored in the browser URL.

  7. Content area

Select a Building Block Type for the content

Click on "Element Type" in the tool area to select your desired Building Bock Type for the content.

Select Axes Types

Click on "Axes" in the tool area to select an enumeration, numeric or boolean attribute which is assigned to the content Building Block Type for the x- or the y-axis.

Select size of circles

The default diagram starts with equal sized Building Block circles. Click on "Size" in the tool area and select an attribute to change the size of the circles depending on their attribute's value.

To reset the size to default, click on "Default sizing".

Filtering

You may filter the elements to be displayed within the Portfolio Diagram. Via the tool area you can add a new filter or edit the current filter. See Filtering for details.

Sorting

Portfolio diagram supports sorting functionality, see sorting. You can sort elements by axes attributes value or by content elements.

Coloring

Portfolio Diagrams can be configured to show additional information via coloring of the elements.

By default, the elements are colored according to their Building Block Type. Via the tool area you can set an individual coloring. Choose between a numerical and a enumeration based coloring.

See Coloring for details.

Hierarchical Names

You can use hierarchical names instead of the standard names for each level by clicking on "Display" in the toolarea. This is only possible for Building Block Types having a hierarchy relation.

Cropping

Click on "Display" and "Activate cropping" in the toolarea to hide empty rows or columns.

In the case of a numeric attribute on an axis the empty rows or columns at the upper limit are cropped. In the case of an enumeration attribute on an axis any empty column or row is cropped.

Layout

Zoom

The initial diagram is zoomed out to show the entire diagram. You can zoom in and out by using Zoom control component or by using "ctrl + mouse wheel".

Legend

To check the actual configuration in the legend you can expand or collapse the legend by clicking on the ">"-symbol.

Save, Save As and Load Saved Queries

Once you have configured your diagram you may want to save it for later use. Click on Save As to give it a name and description. You can always save configurations on your Saved Query by clicking the Save-button.
The Saved Query can be opened via the Load-button.

Download

You can download the diagram shown on the screen as SVG, JPEG, PNG PDF or VISIO. The zoom factor used within the downloaded file is always 100%.

Show in List

With the Show in List button you can jump to the List View of the currently shown Building Block Type.

Reset View

By clicking on the "Reset View" button, you can reset the diagram to the default values. Look at User Profiles page for details.

Partial Diagram

When working with large sets of data only a subset of the diagram is shown (depending on the browser type). In this case you'll be noticed on the top right screen. Whenever a partial diagram is shown, the export button shows options to "Full Export" the diagram.

You can add more restrictive filters to reduce the number of building blocks. Always be careful with partial diagrams as important parts of the diagram might not be shown.
